Compare the Oddworld creatures and environments to the ones you see in nowadays sci-fi movies and videogames and you’ll realize that most are creatively bankrupt.
I feel Oddworld has done a wonderful job in not using old tropes to create a harsh, bleak and depressing dystopian world, with imaginative and humorous writing, and amazing creature design.
I think the Oddworld series as a whole has some of, if not THE best art direction in gaming.
